How we got started
In the fall of 1998, PlanetUnreal, which was originally UNA out of Australia, featuring the likes of San, Arcane, Mia'cova and Mek, began to assemble a number of absolute Unrealaholics as their administration team. The site joined the Gamespy Planet Network and was run for the community, by the community.
After some time, Gamespy stopped being a generous host and began to be assimilated into the hive mind that the Planet network has become today. Because of various events, the original PlanetUnreal staff was forced to either become lapdogs or set out on their own. With a little encouragement and help, BeyondUnreal was born in October of 2001 and has been going strong ever since. You can read more of the Gamespy catastrophe in various places around the web, but our story can be found here.
Our Staff
Our staff comes from the active community members on the site. All of our administrators and moderators began their BU careers as first time posters, long time community members and Unreal fans first. From time to tim we do invite people who we feel will benefit the site to help contribute, but we are always on the lookout for particularly helpful people. Think you can help us out? Get started on the Job Page. Don't be afraid to apply whether we have openings or not!
FragBU
For several years now, BeyondUnreal has hosted weekly FragBU events on Friday and Saturday nights. We play any and all gametypes for UT3 on a private server located in St. Louis, MO. If you would like to learn more about FragBU, visit the FragBU Information Page.
Other Endeavors
BeyondUnreal is always interested in pursuing other endeavors that will help to sustain and grow the Unreal community. We are huge fans of our users and community that delivers time after time! If you have an idea for a site or feature that you think would be useful, head over to the Contact Us Page and let us know.
Our Mission Statement
The BeyondUnreal team is dedicated to providing everything necessary and desired by the Unreal-engine gamer in a fast, fun and reliable website.
The site is decidedly community-oriented, with the only commercial activities being those that are necessary to support the financial needs of the site. All remaining revenues are to be distributed to the team.
We treat our visitors with fairness and respect, and we expect the same from our visitors toward each other and the admin team.
The goal of BeyondUnreal is to be the largest and most respected Unreal-engine game site in the world.
