UCMP2: Assault
AS-UCMP2-Cruciatus - "After being tried and executed by Liandri's supreme council for mass murder, Malcolm is sent to Hell. His natural impulse to main [sic] and kill finds him leading a team of damned souls on the greatest battle he has ever faced."
Author: LordSimeon
Dark Pulse: Interesting map theme indeed. Sure, we've all had the Hell theme before, but it never seemed so... well... hellish. Coming off from the utterly silly ONS-ABC, LordSimeon proves to us that while it might still be a gimmick map, it's a good gimmick map, right from the excellent Machanima intro to the end, which to me feels right like the very end of the move "From Dusk til Dawn." The music is seemingly dynamic and fits very well. It even has a Vehicle that looks like a Cacodemon that you can ride and two "new" weapons (Which have new models and/or are retextured.) It won't be for the pro crowd - paths are cramped, defense has it pretty good, and it's really, really dark, but for anyone else looking for something different from the usual Assault "Blow Up/Infiltrate/Sabotage this Base/Ship/Facility" it will be a welcome change of pace. The problem is, of course, the hardcore AS crowd won't latch onto it due to its theme - but they should. The only other small nitpicks I've had is the typo in the description and the fact that Liandri kills off their greatest champion ever - a rather... foolish thing to do to a man whose brought them billions, isn't it?

Hal: You've got to love Lord Simeon's work for the always-strong theme, custom meshes, and sense of place. The Lovecraftian style has never been done so well in an Assault map. The objectives are pretty basic (some might call it linear)... destroy this object / flip this switch. There are lots of objectives - you'll be lucky to meet them all before time expires and Satan makes you his bitch. Don't worry though, his bark is worse than his bite.
Extra points for the numerous custom meshes, textures, weapons, intro movie, ending sequence, vehicles, sounds, and music. Still, some of the modeling is a bit crude, the lighting feels oversaturated in several spots, and some of the standard Assault sounds don't match the objective (in one case, as you return an offering to an altar, a voice states "The vehicle is now operational!"). A gallant effort by Lord Simeon - not many other people could have pulled this off.

Raffi B: Definitely a lot of work went into this map. Custom architecture as well as new weapons and vehicles are present, and they are all incorporated into the gameplay fairly well. The gameplay itself, as far as an assault map goes, is fairly repetitive. Such a unique map would have been great with new, unique gameplay. It seems to me a bit like AS-FallenCity in hell with more objectives and vehicles.
